Duck Hunting and Goose Hunting

Waterfowl hunting videos are killer to watch on their own. They entertain and help us stay connected to the sport we love when we are not in the field.

Videos also remind us about our gear, decoys, and calls. Or our dogs and good friends.

And of course there are the birds.

Floating mallards, back peddling honkers, balls of teal, or the neck break speed of divers, you have to love them all.     read more...

RefugeRat.com Formally Introduces the Field Etiquette RatGuide, a Unique Hunting Resource for the Public Refuge Waterfowler

drake-mallard-duck-bag-two-day-public-land-huntRatGuide Helps to Demystify Field Challenges and Improve Quality of Public Land Duck and Goose Hunts

Scotts Valley, CA - July 12, 2010 - RefugeRat.com officially introduces a unique field guide to assist duck and goose hunters better understand the issues involved while waterfowl hunting on public lands, and ultimately improve the quality of their hunts.

The initial version of the Field Etiquette RatGuide has been well received by waterfowlers of all skill levels, and continues to attract support. The guide itself is a living document, addressing a complex set of interrelated hunting issues, such as cooperation in the field, bird behavior, field travel, hunt planning, decoys, calling, shooting, and other pertinent factors.

The Field Etiquette RatGuide emerged from personal duck and goose hunting experiences while on public lands.

Iraq - Criss Dougherty, MRR (Military RefugeRat)

iraq-criss-dougherty-and-robert-m270a1-mlrs-rat-bannerThe pictures submitted recently to RefugeRat.com brought mixed feelings both while taking them, and then while reflecting on my thoughts of these past 14 months of our 15 month deployment.

We would like to take just a second to thank the folks at RefugeRat.com for their continuous correspondence, constant care, and concern.

I only wish the relationship that has been forged these last  two months would have evolved much earlier in our deployment.

Arkansas - Michael Fleeman, NRR, ProStaff

arkansas-michael-fleeman-timber-duck-callRefugeRat.com welcomes Mike Fleeman from his home state of Arkansas.

Mike hunts about 40 days per year on some of the most demanding public waterfowl ground in the country, the Bayou Meto.

It is the most crowded, hardest hunted duck hole in Arkansas, and possibly the world. The morning boat race itself is an event.

RatLabs Active in Rat Experiments

We have been conducting several Rat experiments here at the RefugeRat.com RatLabs and have made some exciting discoveries.

We are also solicitating your participation with these series of tests.

Multiple Rat breeds were first analyzed and their genetics mapped using the latest genome technology. The findings were mind blowing.

Though the subsequent experiments did include Rats, none were harmed in the process. No electrical stimulus, scalpels, syringes, or cutting edge pharmaceuticals were used during the tests under highly controlled conditions.

The primary implements used were creativity, sketches, and fun, as the tests were purely illustrative in nature.

Perfect Hunt Initiative

targetThe Perfect Hunt Initiative™ emerged from our field experiences and discussions with skilled duck and goose hunters from around the country.

The goal is to bring a focused awareness to the waterfowling community about what is possible while in the field during a duck or goose hunt. There are waterfowlers that already know what is possible. They have experienced it, and continue to live it.

There are other duck or goose hunters that have yet to witness the possibilities for a number of reasons. We might use the analogy of the aspiring race car driver that loves to fly down country roads in his private vehicle to illustrate the point.
